Modern day fruit and veg not as healthy as traditional varieties?
Researchers have claimed that older varieties of fruit and veg may have been considerably healthier than their modern day supermarket equivalents.
A pilot study has discovered that a traditional dessert apple had ten times more of a disease preventing chemical than its newer, shinier-skinned equivalent. The Egremont Russet apple (often used to make cider) contains considerably more phloridzin than a regular Granny Smith appple you might find in a supermarket.
The discovery has sparked the beginning of a three year study to examine older varieties of apples, bananas, mangoes and onions for their health benefits.
Scientists at Unilever, Kew Gardens and Cranfield University in Bedfordshire, believe ‘pre-domesticated’ fruit and veg eaten in years gone by had much higher levels of hundreds of chemicals that help to prevent disease.
This list includes salicylates, which play a key role in fighting cancer and are used to make aspirin.
Mass produced fruit and veg lose many of these vitamins because of the cold conditions they are often stored in for months on end to slow the ripening process. This is why you should look into our office fruit London service - no mass produced fruit there!
Bruised fruit and veg also produce more nutritious chemicals because these vitamins are released as a defence mechanism so if there's every a bruised fruit in your fruit delivery London you know it's good for you!

Eating healthier to lose weight
If you are thinking about going on one of these nasty diets that don’t let you eat very much, well then think again. Dieting is not about starving yourself to any degree, it is more about taking what you eat now and find other alternatives that are healthier for you. Even if you just want to feel healthier then this article is for you and will help you to understand food a little bit more. One key thing to remember is that whole foods are much better for you than processed ones.
Whole Foods
A whole food ‘does exactly what it says on the tin’. It is a food that you eat the exact same way it came out of the ground. So we eat carrots that are whole as they are literally taken out of the ground and we cook and eat them. Most whole food we don’t even need to cook. Why not consider getting fruit baskets delivered to make sure you get your fill of whole foods?
This means that whole foods are much healthier for you as they are full of nutrients and vitamins and provide you with vital carbohydrates for energy. These whole foods just keep you going for longer. Fruit and veg boxes are a great source of natural vitamins and minerals.
Processed foods
These are foods that come out of a tin or jar. They are generally very high in salt as this is what preserves them. Frozen veg are the same as although you would think that these veg are healthy but infact they are full of additives and preservatives to make them seem fresh.
With the high sodium count in processed foods you can understand why they are not healthy. But the thing is if we ate them by themselves they would be bad but we make them worse by adding our own table salt.
Fresh Meat Vs. Processed Meat
Fresh meat is one of the best things you can put into your body. They are full of protein & carbohydrates, which is exactly what we need to repair our muscles after going to the gym. The key to any diet is moderation. If you moderate how much of a certain substance you eat then you will be fine.
A great place to buy your fresh meat is from an online butcher. They offer premium quality meat at wholesale prices. They can deliver the meat to your home or office incase you are busy. You can get meat and more delivered to your door and save up to 40% on leading supermarkets.
Processed meats can be bad for you even though they say 100% beef. If you think logically about it nothing that gets cooked in less than a minute can be good for you as the amount of additives it posses is phenomenally high. This means that the food will make you feel full and energised on the short run but when it comes to sustaining the feeling of being full and energised it fails.
I am not saying for a minute not to eat these fast foods that all humans enjoy, but try to eat as healthy as possible 90% of the time. Allow yourself to have a cheat meal or cheat day once a week. This is when you eat whatever you want within reason or maybe it is the night you decide to have a bottle of wine. But just remember do it with moderation.
Throughout this article I have given you advice on whole foods and fresh meat in comparison to the nasty processed items. I hope that the advice will help you to eat healthier and live a healthy life. Just remember it is all about moderation.

8% of UK Adults Believe Tomato Ketchup is 1 of their 5-a-day
A recent study conducted on behalf of the Health Food Manufacturers’ Association (HFMA) has revealed that 1 in 12 adults are very much unaware of what constitutes fruit and veg.
Worringly, more than 8% of Britons thought that items including tomato ketchup, Terry's chocolate orange and strawberry ice cream counted towards one of their five a day.
Over half of UK adults aren't eating enough fruit and veg to reach the five a day target as well, the poll of 10,000 people revealed. On top of that, Brits only consume three and a half 80g portions a day, less than any other major European country.
The study also asked participants whether they believed their diets had worsened since the economic downturn, to which over a third (37 per cent) who responded claimed that it had. A third of 18 to 24 year olds said that they preferred to eat junk food because it was cheaper.
Guidelines published by the Department of Health suggest that people should eat five portions of fruit and veg a day to reduce the risk of obesity and heart disease.
These figures certainly suggest that we should be eating much more fruit and veg and there's no better way than with our veg boxes delivered straight to your door.

Fruit and Veg give ‘healthy glow’
University of St. Andrews research has discovered that eating fruit and veg, even just for a few weeks, could improve your skin colour.
The study monitored diet in 35 people, finding more colouration in those who ate more greens.
It is widely known that certain carotenoids found in many types of fruit and vegetables can have an affect on skin tone and colour, however, it is not clear how much influence a normal healthy diet can have on this effect.
The 35 participants in the study had their skin tone examined before, during and after the six week test period. They were also quizzed on their fruit and vegetable intake.
The results suggested that changes in fruit and veg consumption could be related to changes in skin tone, contributing to a deepening of natural red and yellow skin colouration.
Earlier research even suggested that these changes might make you more attractive, so there's not a better time to start wolfing down greens from our veg box delivery London service.

Anyone for a square watermelon??
Ever thought what it would be like if a certain type of fruit is a different shape? The Japanese have shocked everyone by growing square shaped watermelons normally a round shape. It certainly does shock of lot of people because of its uniqueness of shape.
It was said by the farmer that by growing a watermelon cube shaped can help distribution because it can be easily stored and packed however the niche shape of the watermelon has appealed many members of the public in buying the watermelon. The cubiod shaped watermelon is offered to large supermarkets and high class people that can afford to pay 10,000yen for an watermelon.
This is double or even triple the amount of a normal shaped watermelon. A cubiod shaped watermelon would also mean it would be easier to cut and shared between family members which can be very cool indeed it can also appeal to younger generations to start to eat fruits. Shame we cant deliver these within our fruit delivery london service but if we could it would sure make things interesting!

Gabor takes place in Dyfi Enduro biking marathon
On the 1st of May one of our main men Gabor took part in Dyfi Enduro, a non-competitive race that gives you a chance to see just how hard you can push yourself and also lets you explore the gorgeous Welsh scenery along the way. Sporting his fruit for London team colours and logo, Gabor set off at 11am Sunday morning starting Machynlleth Town centre, he then made his way through Dyfi forests hidden trails. With long unrelenting fire road climbs and long rough descents, the riders then spin back into town to the event HQ where the 60 km ride ends.
But not for Gabor, you see the first 250 riders, are given a slightly more arduous route in order to even out the finish times slightly. So once the rest had headed back Gabor carried on strong, and after a very impressive 3hours 9minutes and 39 seconds Gabor made it back to the finish line, coming in 26th out of 643 overall and 17th in his category of 18-40 year olds.
Overall I think it’s safe to say that Gabor did Fruit 4 London very proud and we can’t wait to hear more about his upcoming races.
